HERE IS a roundup of some Veterans Day events in southern Maine on Friday.

PORTLAND: The Veterans Day Parade is at 10:30 a.m., led by Grand Marshall Vuskin Amergian, ETO, World War II. The parade will begin around Longfellow Square and proceed east along Congress Street to City Hall Plaza, where the ceremonies will take place. Speakers include: Sen. Susan Collins, Rep. Tom Allen, Cheryl Leeman for Sen. Olympia Snowe, state Rep. Herbert Adams, and Mayor Jill C. Dusan. Military participants include: Rodney Anderson of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 6859; Joe Whitmore of the Army National Guard, Col. Arthur Wickham, Retired, and members of the 3rd Regiment Maine Volunteer Infantry, who will conduct a rifle salute. NEWFIELD: Ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Monument on Route 11 in Newfield Village. A harvest bake sale will follow the program. For more information, call 839-3666. LEWISTON/AUBURN: L&A Veterans Council will hold a ceremony at 10 a.m. at the Lewiston Armory on Central Avenue. Lionel and Normand Guay, mayors of Lewiston and Auburn, will speak. Other participants include veterans, fraternal and youth organizations and state Sen. Margaret "Peggy" Rotundo. The Just Us Entertainers, Edward Little High School and Lewiston High School bands, and the Lewiston High School Chorus will perform. Another ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Park on Main Street in Lewiston with the changing of the flags. The new American flag was donated by U.S. Sen. Susan Collins.
