The University of Maine System trustees will ask the Legislature to increase the system budget by $36 million over the next two years.

The nearly 19 percent increase would raise the state's appropriation to the university system to $226 million a year. The extra money would be used to hold down tuition increases and increase faculty pay, said Chancellor Terrence MacTaggart.
