Truck Fire On Turnpike Snarls Traffic in Scarborough 5/8 Ff Fi '`

Summary

A camper and the pickup truck towing it caught fire Wednesday on the Maine Turnpike in Scarborough, shutting down the southbound lanes during the evening rush hour and snarling traffic on local roads. Nobody was hurt.

The fire resulted when the pickup truck overheated while pulling the camper, said Scarborough Deputy Fire Chief Glen Deering. He said the older-model Chevy, driven by a woman from Fayette, had been leaking oil. The incident occurred at mile 40, about two miles south of the Scarborough exit.
