Sarah "Betty" Herbert, who served in the Women's Air Corp division of the U.S. Army during World War II, died Friday. She was 84.

A corporal, she worked as a statistician in an air control tower in Philadelphia, plotting planes flying domestically and heading overseas. During the war, she met Thomas Herbert, an electrician in the Navy. They married in Philadelphia in 1944.
