The town of Sanford would take over dispatching duties for the York County Sheriff's Department as of July 1 under a plan that York County commissioners are expected to vote on next week.

Most residents of the 14 towns that contract with the sheriff's department for police services wouldn't notice much change. Their calls to the sheriff's department in Alfred would simply be answered by dispatchers in Sanford before being relayed to deputies.
