Runners Coming Together for Their Ailing Friend

Summary


You may well recognize the name Adam Deveau - he's the guy who won the state Class A cross country title last fall and was Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference champion. You may not have heard that Deveau was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia on June 21, days after graduating from Mt. Blue High School in Farmington. He's undergoing treatment at the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center.

The outpouring of support for Deveau and his family has been as swift and sure as his finishing kick. Two races are being held as fund-raisers for his medical treatment, and it says something about Maine's young runners that one of them will be held in Portland, managed by students from other schools who became good friends with Deveau through running.
