Summary


An Interstate 95 rest area that was closed to make way for access to the new north Augusta bridge will not reopen, and state transportation officials are looking at locations for a new rest stop. Some locations for a new rest area are being scouted near the intersection of the Maine Turnpike and Interstate 295 in the West Gardiner-Gardiner area, said assistant state traffic engineer Stephen Landry.

Sites for new rest areas here and elsewhere are part of a larger need identified in a 2003 study of truck transit in Maine, said Maine Department of Transportation spokesman Herb Thomson.
