Summary


Old Orchard Beach police and some residents are trying to stamp out the prom-night ritual of teens renting hotel rooms for a night of underage drinking after the dance. Police and a residents group dedicated to curbing underage drinking recently sent letters to 80 hotel and motel owners in southern Maine asking them to be careful not to host an underage party.

Deputy Chief Keith Babin said the letter writers are trying to stop the problem before it starts.
