The blinking sign hanging from a pipe high above the counter at 3 D's Variety wasn't doing much to draw attention to today's $365 million Powerball jackpot. No problem. Most customers of the Main Street store clearly knew the Powerball payoff had climbed to an all- time high. Many, like Jimmy West of Biddeford, had come in to buy tickets before tonight's drawing, driven by visions of comfort only money can buy.

Being a dreamer seems to be a prerequisite for betting even $1 for a one-in-146 million chance of winning the Powerball jackpot. West, a 61-year-old retiree who made potato chips at a plant in Scarborough for two decades, said he could be found in the Caribbean islands if he won, or possibly Hawaii.
