The Maine Marine Patrol officially joined America's homeland security force Monday by signing an agreement with the U.S. Coast Guard that could become a national model.

The agreement says Marine Patrol officers will help the Coast Guard monitor potential terrorist targets such as Walker's Point in Kennebunkport and huge cruise ships visiting Bar Harbor or Portland.
