York County continues to be the fastest-growing county in Maine, and some of its smallest rural communities are shouldering much of the increase in population, according to a new study.

Newfield, Limerick, Acton and Waterboro have seen their populations grow by as much as 35 percent since 2000, says a population report by the Southern Maine Regional Planning Commission.
