Portland's next police chief is likely to be someone from outside the department, observers say, in part because the two deputy chiefs are eligible for retirement and not interested in applying for the job.
Chief Tim Burton has accepted a job leading the police force in Odessa, Texas, although some formalities remain, so his departure is not official. Odessa officials expect he will start there by Aug. 31, though.See the full content of this document
