Many Maine workers, to be sure, would appreciate a guarantee in law that they receive paid sick time. So one can understand an ongoing effort in the Legislature to mandate this benefit for Maine employers.
What also should be understood, however, is that Maine is in competition with other states for jobs. Mandating sick time would take away flexibility for employers and would contribute to the state's reputation as unfriendly to business.See the full content of this document
