Summary


Leslie Perkins, a lifelong Red Sox fan and coin collector, died Tuesday at his home. He was 82. Mr. Perkins served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a gunner on board the battleship USS Massachusetts. After being seriously injured in combat, he began working as a baker, where he made bread for fellow soldiers, said his daughter, Maureen Best of Pownal.

After leaving the military, Mr. Perkins put his expertise in the kitchen to use as a baker at Burnham & Morrill Co. for 33 years. He baked beans and made many friends among his colleagues, Best said.
