A four-year renewal of the state's commitment to provide laptops to every seventh- and eighth-grade student in Maine is good news in more ways than people might think.
First of all, the Department of Education's $41 million contract with Apple Computer continues a program that produces computer- literate children no matter what their family's income or interest in providing such vital tools to their offspring.
