Maine has the highest suicide rate for residents ages 15 to 24 in New England, and it ranked eighth-highest nationally in that age group between 2001 and 2002, the most recent figures available.

Snowe, Allen and Collins believe the most likely source of federal money for increasing awareness and for prevention programs is the newly passed Garrett Lee Smith Memorial Act.
