Starting today, a trial of a Skowhegan farmer who shot a South Portland man to death - unintentionally, according to authorities - will focus on whether his conduct represents an accident or criminal negligence punishable by up to 40 years in prison.

Bruce Lavallee-Davidson, 50, is charged with manslaughter in the death of Fred Wilson, a 50-year-old computer consultant from the Willard Beach section of South Portland.
