Immucell: Mast Out Gets Positive Results

Summary

ImmuCell Corp. of Portland said it has had positive results in an experimental field trial of Mast Out, a mastitis treatment for cows. In a trial involving 139 cows with subclinical mastitis, the multifarm study showed that Mast Out had a statistically significant cure rate when compared to cows given a placebo.

The study was conducted in collaboration with researchers at Cornell University and will be presented at the 2004 National Mastitis Council meeting to be held next week in Charlotte, N.C. Mastitis, an inflammation of the udder caused by bacterial infections, costs the U.S. dairy industry an estimated $2 billion a year, largely because of the need to discard milk from cows during and shortly after antibiotic treatment.
