It may seem the height of uncharitableness to say it, but the Maine Attorney General's Office was right to shut down a charity campaign run by the Wells Police Department.
The state law that prohibits such actions is a wise one, even if it has to be applied at Christmastime to a drive to raise money for a fellow officer: Jack Haubois, a 17-year-veteran of the force, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer just before Thanksgiving.See the full content of this document
