Members of the Portland Eagles Club say the club hopes to maintain its history of charitable giving even though it will not be able to hold legitimate fundraisers using games of chance next year following the club's conviction for illegal gambling.

The social club pleaded guilty in Cumberland County Superior Court Monday to three counts of aggravated unlawful gambling. The plea agreement with prosecutors resulted in a $60,000 fine, and the forfeit of both the $23,000 seized in a police raid in January and the video poker machines that were at the heart of the state's case.
