Greater Portland House Races

Votes were still being counted late Tuesday night in the race in House District 98.

Rep. Richard Sykes, R-Harrison, was challenged by Democrat Margaret Reimer for the seat representing Bridgton, Harrison, Sweden, Lovell and Stow.

Sykes, 62, served on the Legislature's Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee during his first term. He is a retired high school principal.

Reimer, 49, of Bridgton is an English instructor at the University of Southern Maine.

The two faced off previously, in the 2002 House race.

DISTRICT 99

Vote counting runs late in rural House district

Results were not available late Tuesday in the House District 99 election.

The district includes the towns of Baldwin, Sebago, Cornish, Limington and Denmark.

Incumbent Rep. Philip A. Cressey Jr. of West Baldwin, a Republican, faced a challenge from Democrat Gordon A. Fuller Sr. of Denmark.
