Last year it seemed that people were giving up lilies. The lily leaf beetle - a small, bright red adult and a duller red larvae that often looks black because it is covered with its own manure - would just eat the lilies, so why bother growing them?

This year gardeners are fighting back. They love Asiatic and Oriental lilies, and they are going to grow them.
