Summary


In a sense, the congregation of the School Street United Methodist Church is used to moving. The congregation's first meeting house in 1825 was on High Street, according to a 1925 newspaper account of the church's history. That street is now called College Street and runs along the University of Southern Maine's Gorham campus.

Five years later the congregation built a chapel in a different spot on the same street, and 10 years after that built a larger house of worship, also on High Street. Finally, in 1880, the congregation moved to a brand-new church it built on School Street, where it still worships today.
