The Senate confirmed David Cheever to be the next state archivist on a party-line vote Thursday.
Cheever, 57, of Augusta proved to be a controversial candidate for the position, in which he'll be in charge of the state's historical records and important documents: All 18 Senate Democrats voted for him; all 17 Senate Republicans voted to oppose his nomination.See the full content of this document
