Cape Elizabeth Coach Kerry Kertes was talking about the critical race in which record-setting senior Taylor McFarlane and a pair of freshmen placed 1-5-6 in the 100-yard freestyle to clinch the state Class A swimming and diving champ- ionship Monday night. Looking up, he saw his girls returning from the awards platform with their third consecutive state trophy and quickly concluded his remarks.

"I'm going to leave for a second," he said to reporters before stepping to the edge of Stanley Wallace Pool for the traditional dunking. Moments later, all the Capers were in the water, bobbing their way under floating lane lines toward the bleachers where another Cape Elizabeth celebration was underway.
