Public hearings on the Greater Portland Transit District's proposal to raise Metro bus fares 20 percent are scheduled this week in Portland, Westbrook and Falmouth.

The district will seek comments on its plan to increase the full fare from $1.25 to $1.50 and the price of a monthly pass from $37.50 to $45. The district's board will vote on the increase at its next meeting, 8 a.m. Feb. 24. at the Metro office, 14 Valley St. in Portland.
