Turning and moving along like an old pro, Brunswick's parking enforcement officer had a big grin after his ride on a device that looks as if it came out of "The Jetsons." Rich Collins Jr. said he walks seven to nine miles a day through Brunswick's downtown, issuing tickets to drivers who violate parking regulations. "It can be pretty tiring," he said. "I go through a pair of boots every six months."

Brunswick police want to give some relief to their parking enforcement officer, while improving his efficiency. That's why they invited Ann M. Cook, the southern Maine sales representative for Segway, to Brunswick Tuesday to demonstrate how the battery- powered, two-wheeled device operates.
