You spend a lot of time praying, if you're in the tourism business in Maine. Praying for warm weather and sunny skies in the summer, spectacular foliage in the fall, snow in the winter and in the spring . . . well, mud-and-black fly season simply has to be endured.

"That's probably the downside of being a year-round attraction," said Barbara Clark, executive director of the Sebago Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce.
