Summary


Sometime this week we'll know for sure whether Mainers will get to undo a tax hike on alcohol and soda. Oddly, whether the question gets on the ballot could affect the GOP's chances for taking control of the Maine Senate.

The repeal effort is not aimed exclusively at the tax. The "people's veto" provision of the Maine Constitution doesn't allow for striking down a portion of a law. Instead, the entire bill that includes the tax hike would be removed if it passes.
