Military leaders brought their campaign to build support for a larger National Guard to Maine Saturday, saying a recent proposal that could cut troop levels calls for increased awareness of just how thin the current force is stretched. "We're starting now to create units where units don't exist," said Maj. Gen. John W. Libby, Adjutant General of the Maine Army National Guard.

Libby said he anticipates a piecemeal security unit made up of Guard members from Maine, Nevada and Wisconsin will deploy to Iraq by June.
