Some towering musical figures highlight the 26th Thomas Point Beach Bluegrass Festival this weekend, but many people say their favorite part of the event takes place away from the main stage. The music does not stop when scheduled performances wind up at 10 p.m.; in fact, some say that's when it really gets started. Clusters of mandolin, guitar, banjo and bass players gather and play into the night.

The 27-acre park is zoned according to different curfews. Campers in the quiet zone turn in early and others, like Richard Michaud of Newton, Mass., in the unrestricted "Field Picker's Paradise," pick and strum until sunrise.
