Dan Bilodeau had an open mind when he showed up at the local Lions Club one chilly night last week to hear Peter Mills explain why he wants to be governor. By the time the forum drew to a close more than an hour later, the Monmouth Republican was almost solidly in the Mills camp, thanks not only to what Mills said, but to how he handled himself.

Mills wants to hold state government accountable for the tax dollars it spends, and that's a good thing, said Bilodeau, a postmaster. But Bilodeau also came away from the meeting with something else, a positive impression of Mills as a person. He just plain liked the guy.
