Fishermen's Memorial Worthwhile Public Art Project ; the Community Should Get Behind This Effort to Honor This Important Part of Our History.

Commercial fishing boats used to dot Portland Harbor and crowd its wharfs. But even though their numbers are dwindling, they still remain an important part of how the world thinks of us and how the city sees itself. A group of fishermen, their families and the people who care about them have restarted an effort to honor Portland's fishermen who have died doing their dangerous work, including the five fatal sinkings between 1999-2002. The memorial is an effort the community should get behind.
